The book club developed from a discussion group led by Liane Norman with a theme of “detecting women.” The project was funded by a grant from the Pennsylvania Humanities Council. The women detectives discussed were Jane Marple in Agatha Christie’s Murder at the Vicarage, Kinsey Milhone in Sue Grafton’s O is for Outlaw, Kay Scarpetta in Patricia Cornwell’s Postmortem, and Barbara Havers with Thomas Lynley in Elizabeth George’s Deception on His Mind. Following those initial meetings in fall 2003 the Drop Dead Mystery Book Club was formed. The book club theme broaden to mysteries in general. Over the last 10 years the book club has read and discussed over 100 books.
